Keeping it Real

Hi everyone

Have you heard the expression "keeping it real"?

What does this popular expression mean?

Watch this film and hear my opinion of why we all need to "KEEP IT REAL"

Member of the Month - Sue

Hi there

The member of the month this month is Sue. She has been on the programme since June 2008 and her journey is all  inspiring.

She has provided loads of support and motivation to others and has written over 160 blog entries! You can see and read these for yourself here:  http://weightlossjournals.petecohen.tv/index.cfm/Suefromcoast

Sue has lost  5 and a half stone, and a total of 48 inches from her bust waist and hips, and dropped 4 dress sizes. Sue still wants to lose a considerable amount of weight and I am sure this is will happen. Her weight loss is only one part of what she has achieved and I have included some extracts from one of her most recent blog entries for you to see just how far she has come.

What has this programme meant to me?

Today I was thinking how my life has changed in the 10 months since i joined this programme. For newcomers to the programme if you look back on my first entries you will see the serious state i was in, and the problems i had to even get to Petes seminar in the first place, but i was driven to go , and my word am i so glad i did !!! as i was virtually housebound, crippled by arthritis, weight and surgery pain, and my self esteem and selfworth was so low i had difficulty dragging my almost 28 stone body out of bed every day!!!

Firstly and most importantly i can say hand on heart I have not had one binge, when i was binging uncontrollably sometimes several times daily right up untill I started the programme, I now like me, I now believe i am worth being nice to, i believe I deserve a better life and I have found patience to know it will take me a while, but i didnt get to that size overnight, so i am happy with my 2-3lb loss weekly, where before if i didnt loose half a stone i would get fed up and binge for england.

i was working in a stressful business, fromhome by phone as i am not able to do a physical job, but i had 2 successful businesses..... working day and night to provide financial help for my family...... i didnt need to do that to feel loved, they love me dearly and wanted me to take life easier, this programme has given me that confidence to sell 1 business, and i love this easier lifestyle.

I have the confidence to go out and do much more, I now cope when people stare and snigger and point, i just imagine Pete and all my online friends with me and i hold my head up and smile!!!

My grandson has lost almost 3 stone, his amazing transformation has been well written about, but its all thanks to petecohen.tv as i raved on so much he couldnt help but listen and take notice !!! Thankgod he did, as he is incredible and so happy now.

I have made several lifelong friends from the bloggers who were there for me in the beginning, i talk to them weekly and i know we will always be intouch.

I have never once been lonely since joining petecohen.tv.... i have been known to blogg at 3am and how great to know you can log on 24/7 and be amongst friends who all understand.

i have been able to come to terms with the traumatic cancer journey i went on, i kept it all in for 3 years , and this amazing programme and you amazing bloggers has allowed me to express those feelings and get rid of them.
I booked a limo to take my blogging friends around london when we attended last octobers seminar..... it was a suprise, their faces will stay with me and we all have those memories.

I dont go through life apologising for who i am anymore.... you amazing bloggers have always made me feel so special, and Pete, well Pete is one of lifes heros, he has always been there for me, from my first day right the way through till now... you dont meet many really really special people in a lifetime, but Pete is definately one and i thank god so much his amazing team who encouraged me to make that journey to see Pete live.

This programme is so much more than about weightloss, its about life changing processes that help us find who we should be, after stumbling from one diet disaster and self destructive behaviour issue to another, Its taken me to 57 years of age to be happy with who i am today.... that journey i made to see Pete in London was the hardest but the best journey of my life.

Thankyou Pete and thankyou all you amazing people
Sue xxxx

Living the American Dream

I have recently returned from a trip to the deep South of the United States, visiting Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. I know America gets bad press these days but I am a big fan. However, they really love food,  portion sizes are massive and fast food outlets are everywhere.

It’s funny how our lives have changed and how years ago people used to hunt to live and survive. This obviously involved blood, sweat and tears. These days, especially in the states people hunt in their cars and there is drive-in everything, drive-in fast food, drive-in pharmacies, drive-in banks, drive-in supermarkets. In fact people don’t really have to move these days because if you don’t go out hunting in your car someone will bring everything to you.

I couldn’t believe how many overweight people I saw, people of all ages and backgrounds. It’s such a big problem and I am sure we are catching up with our American cousins as us Brits’ waist lines are ever expanding.

In fact, in the plane on the way home I read in a recent survey that almost three-quarters of Britons believe they are overweight and have vowed to start a health campaign in the New Year. This got me wondering as to just how many of these vows will result in success.

Despite almost 70 percent of Britons saying they want to get healthy, experts said other evidence into people's behaviour suggests that repeated warnings about the dangers of obesity is falling on deaf ears.

Perhaps this is highlighted by McDonalds who recently revealed it had recorded growth rates close to their peak of the 1980s -- with 88 million visits to its outlets in the UK last month alone!

It is estimated that obesity causes 9,000 premature deaths each year in England and costs the NHS about one billion pounds annually.

A recent government study predicted that half the population could be obese within 25 years and Colin Waine, chairman of the National Obesity Forum charity, said the country's obesity crisis was "quite dire".

While it appears people want to tackle obesity, evidence such as the sales figures revealed by McDonalds, paints a markedly different picture.

The government is desperate to do something about this situation and in October, they unveiled a strategy where parents of severely overweight children may be sent letters warning them of the health dangers involved.

Do you think this will make any difference? I am not sure but I know that my weight loss programme is making a difference to many people.

The following is from Sue one of our many success stories:

"I am now 4 stone lighter, and have made the most incredible lifestyle changes since joining back in June"

"I enjoy following the plan and it's great to go to the workshops where you can meet other members who you have got to know online.  I have lost over 4 stone following PCTV - it's such a different and refreshing approach to weight loss."
Ruth Alexander

"What makes PCTV and specifically being on the blogs extra special is that you soon become part of our family, we're all together pulling in the same direction and we are accepted and feel free to be ourselves with our ups and downs. Once we're helping other people we're also realising our own abilities to help ourselves - what could be better and I have lost 6 stone"
Annie Garcia

"I joined the programme back in June after being bowled over by Pete and his amazing system, it has worked for me where 40 odd years of conventional dieting hasnt, in just over 3 months i am 3 stone plus lighter, i am walking unaided where before i needed a stick, i was virtually housebound and now i go out every day, its completely lifechanging and the best thing is I haven't once felt hungry or deprived."
Sue Hedges

"PCTV has changed my entire view on getting slimmer, fitter, healthier and happier. Ten months on, I'm still on the programme and still losing weight. I have never managed this before- usually I'm "good" for a few weeks then fall off the wagon and give up. Then as the next big thing in my life approaches I try to "diet" again. I've now broken this cycle thanks to Pete and all the wonderful people on the Weightloss Journals Blog. Since starting PCTV on Jan 1st 2008 I have lost 2st 10lbs. I attended Pete's weight loss event in London on Oct 11th and it was an elightening and motivational day."

Thanks so much ladies! It was great to see you all again at the event. Keep it up you're all doing so incredibly well!

Attitude is everything

Hi everyone the following was sent to me from Vikki from Scotland, who won a years free life coaching with me. I love it so much that i wanted everyone to see it.

There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head. Well," she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today?"  So she did and she had a wonderful day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head. "H-M-M," she said, "I think I'll part my hair down the middle today?" So she did and she had a grand day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her head. "Well," she said,  "today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail." So she did and she had a fun, fun day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head. "YEA!" she exclaimed, "I don't have to fix my hair today!"

Attitude is everything.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Live simply,
Love generously,
Care deeply,
Speak kindly......

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.  It's about learning to dance in the rain.

If you loved this as much as i did, please leave a comment below :)

12 Stone Lighter!

Here's some truely amazing feedback from Diane Stephenson - what a success story! Thanks Diane for sending this through and becoming an instant inspiration!...

12 stone weight lossDIANE WRITES: In August 2002 I finally started to get to grips with my weight issue.  I’d either been overweight, or perceived myself to be, for all of my life and at that point weighed almost 24 stone.

My first step on the journey was to give up my major vice – chocolate.  By having to think about what I wanted to snack on, as I couldn’t just grab for my automatic panecea to all ills.  This meant I started to lose a little bit of weight and I joined a gym and started going 3 or 4 times a week.

In April 2003 my job was made redundant and I knew I would have more time available for a while, until I found another job, so I started working out with a personal trainer to make sure I was working in a way that would help me achieve my goals.   I also had time on my hands and found a book that had been recommended to me called Slimming with Pete by Pete Cohen.
I found this book amazingly helpful – it was light, entertaining reading but also drove home some powerful points including:

  • Are you really hungry?  For me this was really helpful as historically I was an emotional eater – angry, scared, depressed – chocolate would sort that out!!!?
  • Think about what you eat – don’t do something else at the same time.  Since doing this I really notice that I eat much quicker when I’m watching TV than if I’m sitting at the table and putting my cutlery down.?
  • Avoid habitual eating – do you need to eat popcorn at the cinema because that’s what you always do?

There were many more helpful points but 5 years on these are what have stuck in my mind.  I was always determined not to go on a diet – I knew I needed to eat in a more balanced and healthy way and stop obsessing about food, whether it was good or bad or, in eating it whether I was good or bad.  I needed to learn that food is just that – it’s how we think about it that gives it so much power.  There are very few foods that are “bad”, mostly it’s just about balance.

Pete’s book Life DIY is also really helpful from a goal setting point of view and helping to think about where you want to be.

Five years down the line I’m 12 stone lighter and far fitter than I ever thought I could be.  I’ve run two half-marathons and run regularly, often for relaxation as I find it to be a great stress-buster.  My average week includes running, spinning classes, Body Attack and Body Pump classes, Pilates, Tai Chi, horse-riding as well as working out in the gym.

The whole process has led to a passionate interest in health through food and I am currently studying for a diploma in Nutritional Therapy with the Institute of Optimum Nutrition with a view to helping others.

The power of suggestion

Hi there,

So lately I've noticed a lot of people who are following the petecohen.tv program are having great success using  Tool 3 - the Relaxation & Transformation MP3...

Here's just a few of their comments:

"I am still finding the MP3 tool is working the best for me"

"The MP3 is great. At the end I feel wonderful"

"The relaxation MP3 helps me keep my stress levels down and increase my belief in my ability to keep losing weight."

"Pete is right about the MP3 - it does relax me and makes me feel more positive."

"I can't believe how much better the relaxation and transformation mp3 makes me feel. I am eaten better and feeling great"

But, dieting is hard work?

So how can this Relaxation Track help people lose weight when it seems like a dichotomy; going against everything that people are usually told about losing weight?

Most people associate weight loss with dieting, and dieting with hard work, denial, sweat and sometimes tears. The process of losing weight makes many people tense and anxious as they are so concerned about how much they are eating or whether they have lost enough weight.

It has always been my goal that in helping people to lose weight, I would also teach them to enjoy the process and become more relaxed and calm.

This is especially important because most people overeat when they are tired, bored, lonely, stressed, anxious or sad, along with many other emotions.  Bad eating habits are not often associated with feeling relaxed, calm and peaceful.

The transformation and relaxation tool relaxes the body and calms the mind. The knock-on effect of this is that people become better at managing their emotions and make better choices, automatically choosing foods which are healthier as well as having an increased desire to exercise and be active.

The power of suggestion.

Everyone is open to suggestion and we are more easily influenced that we think. For example if I was to say to you "What do beans mean ?" - do you hear a voice in your head that goes "HEINZ" ?  Or if I was to say to you "Pringles, once you pop" - do you hear a voice in your head that says "You just can't stop"

The power of positive suggestion or, as some people call it, positive affirmation is an essential part of achieving success in many areas of life, whether  that's sport, business or - of course - losing weight and getting fit.

In this tool I take the person, who wants to lose weight, on a guided journey where I make many positive suggestions to them and their ability to break habits and achieve. The result of this is that people start to give themselves more positive reinforcements and feel good about all the changes they are making.

In addition there are many health benefits from using this tool because when people relax their brains works differently and this creates many positive changes in the body, like decreased blood pressure, heart rate, muscular tension and better digestion.

So until next time, take time to chillax, which is my new made up word for relaxing in the modern world ;)
