Have You Lost Your MOJO?

Mojo.jpgWhat does every single one of us have in common ? What do you have in common with the woman sitting next to you on the bus ? Or with the guy who fixes your boiler ? Or even with your teenage daughter ? Male, female, old, young, rich, poor, black or white - each of us has problems.

No matter how good your life appears, chances are you’re not completely happy with your lot. In fact, a recent BBC survey undertaken for the programme The Happiness Formula found that the number of people who say they’re ‘very happy’ has fallen from 52% in 1957 to just 36% today.

All in all, it would appear that many of us have lost our MOJO, but what does this popular word actually mean ?  Well, many people think MOJO is from the Austin Powers movie. In the film the character Austin has his sexual prowess, that is his MOJO, stolen by one of the characters. This renders him impotent.  However, thanks to the character Felicity Shagwell's encouragement, Austin realizes that he had the MOJO inside him all along.

In actual fact, the original origin of this word is a term that derives from several of the 450 Bantu languages of Africa. It carried quickly to the language of African American slaves and was often applied to charms, magical spells, or small bags carried for personal protection as part of the voodoo belief system that evolved during slavery.

In its most precise definition, people might carry or wear a MOJO, a small fabric bag. The MOJO could contain numerous things, herbs, small carved symbols or fetishes, or papers on which prayers or petitions were written. Usually a MOJO is not displayed and is hidden under clothing.

Now we are not suggesting that you start to carry around a small MOJO bag or that you have lost your sexual prowess. What we are suggesting is you start to carry around what we call MOJO. It's your Motivation, your Optimism, your Joy and your being Outgoing.

Everyone can get their MOJO back and be happier, more confident, more successful and healthier – but these things don’t always land in our laps. One thing that each of us has in common, regardless of our background, culture or gender, is problems. Everybody faces challenges and has things they want to change; but have you noticed how some people deal with things more quickly and more easily than others ? It would seem that the way people have experienced life and the problems they have faced has affected their MOJO.

Let’s face facts, life is not easy and it’s no surprise that many of us have lost our MOJO, our spark, our enthusiasm and our passion to live life to the full.  Life is not like the fairy tales that our parents used to read to us to send us to sleep. However, life can be so much more and you can get your MOJO back, especially if you are Motivated, Optimistic, Joyful  and Outgoing

What do you reckon about our definition of MOJO and how strong is yours?

What is Your Ideal Body For Weight Loss

Our goals, dreams and ambitions are very important when it comes to weight loss, fitness and health but what are the ideals we have and are we just setting ourselves up for failure.

Have a look at my latest video about this and let us know what you think.

What's Your Drug of Choice?

What Is HAPPINESS?

Any discussion of happiness provokes debate about what it is and if it can be bought with money.

Research consistently shows that the path to happiness is somewhat  complex. In 2003 I gained international recognition for defining the 'formula' for happiness. Since then I have been delivering workshops and seminars all over the world on the Art of Happiness.

I recently made the film below about happiness and we are excited about showing it to you and reading your comments.

I want to find out from as many people in the World as possible their thoughts, feelings and observations about "What Is Happiness?'. Please make your comments below and pass on this post to anyone you think is interested in HAPPINESS.

The Long Way Home

I’m back after a trip of a lifetime.

I originally went out to Croatia on business and was supposed to return on Saturday, but with the natural disaster in Iceland I’ve only just got home, after travelling through eight European countries - Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, France and Great Britain.

The whole experience has really taught me some very valuable lessons and maybe nature has a funny way of giving us some important messages.  For me, the message was “slow down, you’re moving too fast.”  It was also fascinating to observe the 150 delegates that I was working with who were from all over the world, and seeing how different people coped with the situation.  To me, the winners were definitely the Spanish. They seemed to deal with it in a way that it just became one long siesta for them.

It was also really lovely to see how people came together and supported each other.  It was definitely a moving experience and something I will never ever forget.  I’ve made another film of our road trip that I’d like to share with you.

Hope you enjoy the film and thanks for all your lovely messages of support.

Who is the Weight Loss Guru?

coachduck-head.jpgI have been helping people get slimmer, fitter and healthier for over 20 years now and over the last few years I have become known as "The Weight Loss Guru" and this is why I started this free blog site.

This site is full of free inspirational information to support and motivate you as you move forward and achieve your goals. There are plenty of articles and videos as well as some excellent pod-casts with some of the leading Health and Fitness Professionals in the world.

What is a GURU?

A guru is a teacher, someone who leads a disciple to wisdom and self-realization. The word is formed by the syllables gu and ru. Gu indicates darkness, and ru indicates destruction. Thus, when translated directly, guru means ‘dispeller of darkness.’  GU and RU  indicate the juxtaposition of light and dark, where ignorance is dark, and knowledge - particularly spiritual knowledge - is light.

My mission as the Weight Loss Guru  is to liberate and free people from the constant battle of trying to lose weight and being on a merry-go-round of dieting. I want to inspire, support, encourage and motivate people to break habits and enjoy their lives.

My approach is about helping people with the following;

1. Belief in themselves

2. Being open to change

3. Conquering their fears

4. Showing them how to break bad habits

5. Giving them support and structure

6. How to feel good about what you are doing

7. Taking personal responsibility

8. Understanding exercise

9. Breaking down their journey into manageable chunks

10. Staying positive and motivated

 Live online course with Pete

NEXT 8-WEEK LIVE ONLINE WITH PETE BEGINS SEPTEMBER 09!

Now it’s possible to go one step further and for you to be coached in person, by me, over the internet in real time!

Technological advancements now make this possible and anyone with a broadband Internet connection and a browser can log onto the Internet and take part in my LIVE eight week weight loss coaching programme.

Next year these courses will cost £250. But for only £100, you can join me on the first of these courses, starting on:

Tuesday 29th September at 8.pm

In terms of getting set up, all you’ll need is a Web Cam so that you can be part of the experience. If you haven’t got one, you’ll need to get one. They are easy to find and you can pick one up fairly cheaply. The software we will be using will allow you to ask questions in real time and will let me respond to these during the session.

As many of you know, I have run weight loss groups for years and helped many people get slimmer, fitter and healthier.

I loved doing these but they were always limited to people who lived near venues and were inaccessible to people from different parts of the country and world.

This is why I developed petecohen.tv – as it was the next best thing. It continues to be such a joy for me to be a part of people’s continued success. Our new service

In January we will be launching a new PCTV programme where we will be running eight-week courses on-line for a select number of people. These courses will run in real time and will deliver a personal touch by offering group coaching.

These courses will cost £250. We do, however, have a one time only exclusive offer for you. For just £100, you can join me on the first of these courses, starting on Tuesday 29th September at 8.pm. This offer is only available until the end of August, so sign up soon. This will be a larger group and will run for one hour each week for eight weeks. It will start the week after the Exceptional Weight Loss Athlete Challenge finishes.

What will you get out of this?

It’s a great opportunity to be coached by me in person and for you to receive a real personal touch. It’s a great chance for your specific needs to be addressed and resolved over the 8 weeks. There will be a focus on breaking the habits that have held you back and helping you create ones that not only help you lose weight but, more importantly, keep it off.

There will also be new tools and techniques for you to use as well as opportunities for you to get to know others and develop a stronger supportive network.

What do I need?

Hardware (audio)

If you don't have an inbuilt microphone on your computer then you might want to consider getting a headset to ensure a better quality experience.  USB sets provide the best audio quality (especially Plantronics and Logitech). We recommend USB headsets rather than analogue as they can interfere with sound cards but also have 2 jacks which can cause confusion for end users. Whilst a good quality headset is recommended there are other things that can be adjusted to ensure their full performance. You can pick any of these up fairly cheaply.

Hardware (Video)

If you don't have an inbuilt camera on your computer then we suggest a web camera.

Interview with Psychotherapist, Richard Curen

Hi everyone,

I have a very special pod-cast for you to listen to. In this one I interview psychotherapist, Richard Curen. Richard is someone I know very well as he is my brother.

We discuss the complex subject of human behaviour and look to shed some light on why we think, feel and act in certain ways. We talk about  how we are not set in stone and how we can break habits and patterns and  change for the better.

Richard is the director of Respond, a national charity working with people with learning difficulties who are the victims or perpetrators of abuse. To find out more about the charity click here.

If you find this pod-cast useful then please make some comments below and I will pass them on to Richard.

Take good care
