Ever dropped your phone down the loo and had to plunge straight in to save it...? I did - quite recently in fact - thinking that the quicker i could get it out, crack it open, dab at it frantically with swabs of loo-roll, and then perch it on top of a radiator to dry... the more likely I would be able to rescue the valuable information stored on it. It's amazing just how attached are we to our phones - as much as we are attached to some of our habits don't you think!?

So, what's got me going on this topic you ask? I did a talk on radio yesterday about 'Loves lost in the digital age' to promote the Bluebook service being launched by O2 - I'm sure you've seen the ads...

It appears that 1 in 5 Brits believe they've lost touch with “the perfect love” through losing their phone. Almost half have also lost touch with close friends, and 40% have lost memorable text messages and photographs all because of a missing phone.

And where are all these missing phones going to?  Research by O2 shows that 12% have been stolen. 5% of people lose their mobiles at home.  19% of mobiles are lost on the 'back of the bus' and 14% have one too many pints and leave the mobile down the pub.  A further 12% of Brits even admit to dropping their mobile in the toilet (that's me)!

Here's some National stats on 'phone lossage' I pinched:

33% back up data from their mobile phone

35% have lost at least one mobile phone

44% have lost contact with a number of friends through losing their mobile

40% lost memorable texts and photographs through losing their mobile

21% fear they have lost touch with their soul mate through losing their phone

38% say the contacts in their mobile phone is very important to them

22% say texts from loved ones kept on their phone are very important to them

22% say pictures kept on their phone are very important to them

Will's Gravatar I dropped mine in a cup of coffee.. Isn't it amazing that such a delicate piece of electronics can survive that - and the extreme hairdryer treatment also!

The Fitness Diva's Gravatar I have some really cool pics on my first cell phone that I can't get off and put on my comp because they no longer sell the proper connector cable to do that with since that particular phone was discontinued! What the hell? So, I can never throw out that phone! It's the only way I can hold on to and enjoy my favorite pics! lol

Pete's Gravatar Will - it constantly surprises me how silly you are ;-)

Fitness Diva - that's a very quirky situation... now just so long as the charger doesn't blow-up!

Pete's Gravatar I've not only dropped my phone down the loo but also left it on the roof of my car while I drove around town. When I realised what had happened, I opened the window and groped around on the roof while still driving. To my amazement the phone was still there! How lucky was that????
