Hi there
I recently came across this article on the web site www.any-body.org/ and think it's very thought provoking. Please have a read and then make a comment as I would love your thoughts on it please
Are Weight Watchers Exploiting Women?

One of AnyBody’s goals is to bring a case against Weight Watchers as one example of where the diet industry knowingly exploits the aesthetic ideal of slenderness. It has plenty of evidence that dieting does not help people maintain weight loss.
A recent contributor to AnyBody.org; Sue Thomason, wrote a very insightful piece in response to AnyBody's ongoing case against the ethics of Weight Watchers. We thought you should all read it on our front page, and if you have personal experiences of the Weight Watchers program, please help us by leaving a comment.
From Sue Thomason:
The diet industry marketeers know full well that restriction leads the human subconscious survival instinct to activate, which drives people to overeat. The subconscious survival instinct does not know that food is available, it takes messages from the conscious mind that food is restricted, so it sees danger and it FORCES you to eat as much as you can in order to survive the famine.
The diet marketeers know that restriction of food allows you to take control only for short periods of time before this survival instinct kicks in. They perpetuate the message that the only way to lose weight is to follow their restriction regimes, and they set their customers up for failure and those customers, who see no way out, keep on going back to them and giving them more money, fuelled on by their short term success, which they see as evidence that diets work.
The reality is that they don't work and that they CAUSE overeating in the first place. Diet companies, such as Weight Watchers, CREATE overeaters.
With its ever growing profits and it's 98 per cent long-term failure rate, The diet industry is the most successful failed business in the world.
The universally accepted diet information, be it under the label of 'healthy eating' or 'cutting down', is creating the so-called 'obesity epidemic' that is now the second biggest killer next to smoking in the developed world. (And it's not an 'obesity epidemic' it's an overeating epidemic. Obesity is only one symptom in a line of symptoms caused by overeating. To pick it out and place the blame on it makes as much sense as blaming lung cancer caused by smoking on the accompanying cough!)
Without restriction, we have a genuine choice and are not driven by the subconscious need to survive in the face of a famine. Without restriction we do not overeat - because overeating is unpleasant. The only reason that overeating feels pleasant is because when you do it you are relieving yourself of the pain and suffering of restriction (or dieting). The pleasure is an illusion.
The diet industry has done as much harm to our society as the tobacco industry - if not more. I teach overeaters how to stop overeating. All of these women have spent their entire lives being dictated to by the diet industry and the physical harm, the misery, degradation and misplaced self-disgust that they live with is no different to torture. If they were in a marriage that affected them the way the diet industry does, the relationship would be legally regarded as emotionally and physically abusive and the courts would provide them with the protection of a restraining order.
Yes, Weight Watchers should be taken to task in court. They should be forced to reveal the long-term failure statistics of their products and services and made to publish them alongside the temporary success stories that they use to 'push' their drug.
What do you think? Please make a comment and let us know what you think.

Hi everyone
I have a great pod-cast for you to listen to. Here I am interviewing World Number One Snooker player, Ronnie O'Sullivan.
I spent two years working with Ronnie and it was some of the most rewarding work I have done to date. Ronnie is nicknamed "The Rocket" due to his rapid playing style. He has been world champion on three occasions and is considered by many fans, critics and fellow professionals as the most naturally talented player in the history of the game.
In this interview we discuss Ronnie's approach to health fitness and weight loss and also discuss the components it takes to be successful and a winner in what ever you do.
Please let us know what you think of this pod-cast and if you find it useful. I will personally pass on any comment to Ronnie
PLEASE SEND THIS ON TO A FRIEND:

Hi there
The member of the month this month is Sue. She has been on the programme since June 2008 and her journey is all inspiring.
She has provided loads of support and motivation to others and has written over 160 blog entries! You can see and read these for yourself here: http://weightlossjournals.petecohen.tv/index.cfm/Suefromcoast
Sue has lost 5 and a half stone, and a total of 48 inches from her bust waist and hips, and dropped 4 dress sizes. Sue still wants to lose a considerable amount of weight and I am sure this is will happen. Her weight loss is only one part of what she has achieved and I have included some extracts from one of her most recent blog entries for you to see just how far she has come.

What has this programme meant to me?

Today I was thinking how my life has changed in the 10 months since i joined this programme. For newcomers to the programme if you look back on my first entries you will see the serious state i was in, and the problems i had to even get to Petes seminar in the first place, but i was driven to go , and my word am i so glad i did !!! as i was virtually housebound, crippled by arthritis, weight and surgery pain, and my self esteem and selfworth was so low i had difficulty dragging my almost 28 stone body out of bed every day!!!
Firstly and most importantly i can say hand on heart I have not had one binge, when i was binging uncontrollably sometimes several times daily right up untill I started the programme, I now like me, I now believe i am worth being nice to, i believe I deserve a better life and I have found patience to know it will take me a while, but i didnt get to that size overnight, so i am happy with my 2-3lb loss weekly, where before if i didnt loose half a stone i would get fed up and binge for england.
i was working in a stressful business, fromhome by phone as i am not able to do a physical job, but i had 2 successful businesses..... working day and night to provide financial help for my family...... i didnt need to do that to feel loved, they love me dearly and wanted me to take life easier, this programme has given me that confidence to sell 1 business, and i love this easier lifestyle.
I have the confidence to go out and do much more, I now cope when people stare and snigger and point, i just imagine Pete and all my online friends with me and i hold my head up and smile!!!
My grandson has lost almost 3 stone, his amazing transformation has been well written about, but its all thanks to petecohen.tv as i raved on so much he couldnt help but listen and take notice !!! Thankgod he did, as he is incredible and so happy now.
I have made several lifelong friends from the bloggers who were there for me in the beginning, i talk to them weekly and i know we will always be intouch.
I have never once been lonely since joining petecohen.tv.... i have been known to blogg at 3am and how great to know you can log on 24/7 and be amongst friends who all understand.
i have been able to come to terms with the traumatic cancer journey i went on, i kept it all in for 3 years , and this amazing programme and you amazing bloggers has allowed me to express those feelings and get rid of them.
I booked a limo to take my blogging friends around london when we attended last octobers seminar..... it was a suprise, their faces will stay with me and we all have those memories.
I dont go through life apologising for who i am anymore.... you amazing bloggers have always made me feel so special, and Pete, well Pete is one of lifes heros, he has always been there for me, from my first day right the way through till now... you dont meet many really really special people in a lifetime, but Pete is definately one and i thank god so much his amazing team who encouraged me to make that journey to see Pete live.
This programme is so much more than about weightloss, its about life changing processes that help us find who we should be, after stumbling from one diet disaster and self destructive behaviour issue to another, Its taken me to 57 years of age to be happy with who i am today.... that journey i made to see Pete in London was the hardest but the best journey of my life.
Thankyou Pete and thankyou all you amazing people
Sue xxxx

Hi there, and welcome to this special New Year Weight Loss Challenge 2009 that helps to celebrate the 20-year mark for me in my work; helping people get slimmer, fitter and healthier.
This challenge will run for six months, to July 2009. This is not only an optimum amount of time to lose a considerable amount of weight but, more importantly, to break the habits that will prevent your weight coming back on.
My weight loss programme is not just about weight loss but also about getting stronger, fitter and healthier. It's also about you conquering the dieting trap so you no longer have unhealthy issues with food and your weight.
As you probably know, the main part of my programme is a 21-day series of video-coaching sessions. Yet the Challenge is for six months, so we strongly encourage you to go through the programme a least three of four times. There is so much material in the 21 days and you, like many others who have been through the programme numerous times, will find that you learn new things every time you go through it.
There are nine tools in the programme and after six months you might have used them all and perhaps even developed your own.
There is a competitive element to the Weight Loss Challenge 2009 that you are invited to get involved in. We are offering six months free life coaching to the person we feel has changed the most, as well as lifetime membership to PCTV. The winner will not necessarily be the person who has lost the most weight, but rather the person who has made the most positive changes and is slimmer, fitter and healthier. We will be announcing the winner in July this year... so you can start the programme anytime this year before July to be in with a chance of winning.
If you want enter this competitive part of the challenge then we require before and after pictures of yourself. You'll need to send your 'before' picture to us, ideally on the day you start the challenge, to info@petecohen.tv.
Over a hundred members started the programme at Day 1 together on the 5th of Jan, since then more and more new members are signing up every day and taking part.
REMEMBER, you can start whenever you want!
But it’s essential to start when:
I highly recommend using your on-line weight-loss journal to share your progress with others, this provides a huge supportive element to the programme. In addition we will be providing you with regular emails and pod-casts to keep you motivated and positive during your time on the programme. (You are never just left to your own devices!) Check out what our members are doing right now on the weight-loss journals blog
If you want more info about The Challenge then please listen to the pod-cast below... you can hear how I suggest you should monitor your progress over the programme and how to get ongoing support.
Take care and let's go for it!
