BlondeBombshell's Gravatar Brilliant podcast! Really enjoyed the first podcast with Ronnie and this one is equally as good. I thought taking responsibility for yourself really came through as well but one of the messages that really came through for me is if you want something you have to be prepared to work hard for it.

I could so relate to Ronnie when he said about running articles that claim to have quick fixes and there are plenty of people or articles in magazines that'll claim to have a get fit quick solution or a lose a dress size in 2 weeks but they're not realistic.

These things take hard work but you also made it clear that if you can find something within it that you love then even though you are working hard you can still enjoy the journey. I found that very motivational. Thanks guys!

wendy's Gravatar Thank you so much Ronnie for that fabulous interview. Next time you're on the telly you will here me cheering you on from my armchair. There were so many good things, helpful things that you said. You are a true winner. I wish I could be your friend.

To mention just one point. I liked the way you said that sometimes you have to take a step back from actually 'doing' and see if there is a better way to reach your goals - maybe the old way is not working as well as it once did and it may be time for a change of tactics - look at things intelligently, I think you said.

I love your attitude to life. What a great role model you are for young people.

All the very best to you. Thank you too, Pete. Very motivational.

Ros's Gravatar Interesting. The bits that really jumped out at me were about finding a role model and copying them, giving yourself a goal to get motivated, to be successfull you have to work hard, overcoming adversity and never giving up- but most of all ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS! I'm sure if I put the time and effort that I spend sitting, thinking, writing and analysing into moving my body, that would make a real difference. Talking the talk is all very well- but you've got to walk the walk as well.
Thanks for that.

Nicki's Gravatar Thought provoking podcast! Powerful to hear Ronnie speak about using so many of the tools that you Pete were telling us to use on the online course and in your 21 day programme and hearing that they work in all areas of life - not just slimming!
The main things I took from the podcast are taking responsibility for yourself and giving yourself a goal and sticking to it. I seem to take responsibility for so many areas of my life and the life of others but fail to do so when it comes to my weight, eating and exercise. I have always been someone that needs a goal otherwise I never get going but when it comes to my own health and fitness I have difficulty sticking to it. I am hopeful that getting things out in the open by blogging will be the key to me sticking to my goal of becoming slimmer, fitter and healthier.
Thanks to you both for the words of wisdom.

rachel's Gravatar I found this podcast very interesting and I have been thinking about Ronnies comments re Steve Davies, copying him, trying to work out why he plays snooker in a certain way and emulating all he does, and I have been looking at my 'thin' friends in that way and considering what it is that they do - how they manage to eat healthily and fit exercise into their day without it appearing to be any kind of effort. I am going to try and copy some of the things they do and overtime it will all become second nature - one friend does not snack at work at all, and if he does its on apples, another one has completely given up drinking tea and coffee and now just drinks water all day long - all good things to try. I was also interested in Ronnies running habits and how he has found an exercise that suits him, that fits into his day and that also brings him bak round if hes feeling down. One of my friends is always asking me to run with them, maybe now I will take the up on the challenge (although I do think I will wait for better weather). Very interesting podcast, very enjoyable and I look forward to listening to more

Janet's Gravatar I really enjoyed this podcast and found it very interesting. Ronnie's story of how he worked hard, focused on being great at what he did, and learning from setbacks was inspiring. It reminded me that I need to enjoy the process of getting slimmer, fitter and healthier even though it will be hard work. The main point that I got from it was to find role models and learn from what they do. I have been finding other people's blogs a good way of doing this. I must listen to all the Member of the Month podcasts again and learn what they did and work on copying that behaviour myself.

PP's Gravatar Thanks so much for this guys.
I love Ronnie.
I can so relate to his extremes and the peace he now feels through being so balanced.
This is something I have learned through your programme Pete and I can never thank you enough.
I love the way that Ronnie sees himself, not as the `best` but as a Professional.
`Best`, is so fleeting and usually only a moment or dependent on someone elses oppinion. Where as being professional stems from within and ultimately our own personal attitude to ourselves and what we want to achieve.
This is how I want to be in my life.
I don`t need to be a doctor or a tv personality to be professional. I can just be me but be professional about what I do.. weather it be being fit, healthy and slim or my personal life or secular work, the same principle applies.
Thankyou so much for this.
I am feeling even more motivated.

katfrin's Gravatar Thanks for this Pete and Ronnie - I found it really interesting, Ronnie seems such a lovely honest humble guy who does something he enjoys and is very good at too!
I took a number of things away from it - that you need to brush yourself up and get moving after the bad times.
Things can take time - I was really taken by Ronnie saying that it was after 3-4 months of getting back into playing that he started to feel happy with his game again. I had to laugh at his descriptions of what the running magazine try to tell us too - "get faster in 24 hours" kind of stuff. I don't have a training diary but I do log most of my runs with my polar and I can see that not only am I better moodwise when I run more but I'm also faster overall. I still fall for it though ( then I look at the routines quite often and think - eh I'm already doing that why ain't I faster!!).
The discipline of doing something is an interesting thing - I think that to be really effective it has to come from ourselves but sometimes you need it to be imposed externally especially at the start of a process. It's only when we deviate from that discipline that we appreciate just how useful doing it like that actually is.

Dolly's Gravatar Well done, Ronnie, you were great today at the Wembley Masters.

When Ronnie was interviewed in the studio after the game, he emphasised how lacking in confidence he feels when he goes out there to play. Both Ronnie and Mark Williams were such a joy to watch and played such amazing snooker, that it's hard to believe you can do that when you're not totally full of self-belief. It must be very strong self-discipline that makes it possible.

And now Ronnie has to pull himself together to be ready for the Final tomorrow. Hopefully, the Professional in him will get him in the right state to win the Masters again for the fifth time.

I've enjoyed listening to Pete and Ronnie's podcast and taken quite a few lessons from it. And I'll be rooting for Ronnie tomorrow and hoping he can do the do !

BikerB's Gravatar I'm really glad you posted this blog this week Pete, I've not watched snooker for years but I saw Ronnie playing when I visited my parents in the week and I'm hooked again.
Looking forward to watching the final tomorrow. We're all backing you tomorrow Ronnie.

pete cohen's Gravatar Thanks for all your kind words about Ronnie.

I watched him live today for the first time in a few years. I used to work with him professionally and went through some real ups and downs watching him play. Today though I just watched and observed without getting emotionally involved. I realise that in life you can't change people, people change themselves.

Take care

Pete

katfrin's Gravatar Pete,

it must be hard if you are involved more intimately with someone but I can tell you as someone who used to have a season ticket that's what people go matches for! I can't watch televised football - not the same at all.

Best wishes for Ronnie in the Final - I'll be rooting for him!

Rob's Gravatar Hi Pete,
Would be interested to know what diet Ronnie has for running. I've watched snooker over the years and noticed recently that it looks like Ronnie's body fat has dropped (which is great for running quick times), I do quite a lot of running and have run some pretty good times but feel that to get my times better I could do with losing some body fat.
Great pod casts by the way!

pete cohen's Gravatar Hi Rob

Ronnie eats a pretty balanced diet and very little processed foods.

If you are interested in this subject listen to the podcasts I have done with Ben Pratt
