The Weight Loss Athlete

 Hi everyone,

Welcome to this special pod-cast called the Weight Loss Athlete. Here I discuss the difference between a good, great and exceptional athlete and compare this to someone who wants to be good, great or exceptional at losing weight.

Let us know what you think and if this has been useful to you.

Take care,
Pete

Kaza's Gravatar Hi Pete,

How true was the weight loss athlete! when we watch sports people on the tv we can tell who is exceptional, but we always put ourselves down. You have really hit the nail on the head, thank you so much. Great x

Kathryn12's Gravatar WOW!! That was SO motivational and absolutely fascinating - thank you. The only problem is that I listened to it just now as I am getting ready for bed and now I think I am going to be too excited to sleep thinking about just how much I can achieve and change in my life!

Thanks Pete.

silver's Gravatar well I have to say that i have never really listened to any of the podcasts before but I thought this was truly excellent. I could really identify with the good and great athlete as I am probably a bit of both and I definitely do the over exercising on ocassion to try and balance the binges but lets face it it never works and I then get put off exercise for a while.

I think what really has hit home is the enjoying the process. I have never enjoyed the process of losing weight and always feel like this is extra stress I don't need and actually resent having to do it. However from today I am going to try and enjoy what I do and try and do more things I enjoy rather than feel I have to do them

peter cohen's Gravatar Go for it Silver. It can be done and it will be done

Bibiqueue's Gravatar What a truly excellent podcast! I found the analogy of the athletes an interesting and motivating one to follow. I also found the idea of the 'exceptional weight loss athlete' as being one who really enjoys the process very much in tune with what I am trying to focus on right now. I feel that I have spent too long in the past on fretting about actual weight loss rather than addressing the underlying issues and the reasons why I have gained the weight in the first place! I have also viewed the process as a penance and put a lot of pressure on myself. Instead, now, I am trying hard to just enjoy my food and listen to my body telling me what it wants and when. I shall be listening to this podcast - and the others - again!
Thank you, Pete!
# By Bibiqueue | 15/04/09 00:02
Joolz's Gravatar Wow! I must be exceptional then as I enjoy what I'm doing and I seem to be quite good at it!!

Great podcast Pete, and I think I picked the perfect day to listen to it.

deanjane's Gravatar Thanks for suggesting the podcast Pete, it was really really helpful. I was a great weight loss athlete. I went on the Lighter Life Diet (then charmingly called Obesity Lifeline) and stuck to the 400 calorie only liquid and the occasional bar diet for 5 whole months, I was marvellous, it was marvellous I lost 8 stone and felt fantastic. However ..... I put the whole lot and more back on again over the space of about a year. Marvellous for my health and well being don't you think! I realise that I was motivated by terror, and half enjoyed the extreme suffering and deprivation that was involved in the process.

However, although I have had a bit of a slip at the beginning of this programme, I really feel that I can enjoy the process as well as the results this time, so thank you so much for the podcast and the programme

Frankie's Gravatar Repeat 100 times ATHLETE, ATHLETE, ATHLETE

the word is not athERlete.

Kathryn12's Gravatar I agree with Sezza - I listened to it again a couple of days ago and find it totally inspirational. Frankie - you would probably benefit from listening to a few of the other podcasts as they would help you to realise that it is unhelpful and counterproductive to focus on the negative minutiae - far better to embrace the bigger, more positive picture. The podcast is truly inspirational if you give it a chance.

Frankie's Gravatar Look at a picture on an LCD screen - you see a picture.

Look at the same picture on a screen with a damaged pixel you see the white spot.

Move back far enough/focus out far enough that you can't see the white spot and you no longer see the picture, everything becomes a blur.

Everything; pictures, athletic training, the path to weight loss and a healthy lifestlye is made up of small details all of which are important in making up the overall picture. Let one detail lapse, your technique falters and little bu little you fail.

Perhaps the web master could take care of the 'small detail' that means that I'm getting email notifications in my inbox and my identity remembered when I carefully un-tick the boxes.

To paraphrase an old saying look after the details and the overall picture will take care of itself.

maudie's Gravatar So glad I listened to this podcast again & this time I really listened and it made me cry, I realise that all my life I've been a good dieter but never an exceptional one. If I am to succeed that is what I have to become and I am determined to change. I know I cannot do it all at once, one step at a time is all I need to concentrate. Thanks Pete, you truly are exceptional

Gena's Gravatar Hey Pete! It's Gena from @themorrisbunch. Thank you for sharing this with me. When you sent me the first video I had NO clue it was you. Blame it on pregnancy, blame it on mommy brain or this freakishly huge headache. But I didn't catch on. okay okay I am a little slow! LOL I think this is great! You get to the point and you are fun to listen to! You are truly an inspiring man and it is great to have someone like you out there inspiring others!

Jessica's Gravatar Wonderful! Just what I needed to hear. After running 9 miles yesterday, I woke up to find I *gained* 1.5 #'s. I was angry, upset, and frustrated. This will give me an opportunity to work on my bounce-back-ability. Thanks for all your help!

pete cohen's Gravatar Hi Jessica

Thanks for your kind words. Lets turn you into an exceptional weight loss athlete.

It's really important to stay away from the scales. We say that scales are for fish and should not be used to often to measure success.

I want you to listen to this pod-cast as I really think it will help you. It's with my friend Colin Deans who has a lovely Scottish accent.

MCSteve's Gravatar Pete this was a truly awesome podcast and I listened to it after my exhausting 7 mile walk on Sunday (day5) so it came at just the right time.

I'm switching careers after 30 years from IT geek to inspirational speaker and event host however I wondered if I'd done the right thing over the last couple of months. Now after this podcast I know I have done the right thing because I am already an excellent inspirational speaker (in my particular field).

People laughed when I said my goal was to have my own TV show one day however once I've lost weighht and feel fitter, healthier and happier who knows?

Thank you so much (and hey it;s only day 5 !!!)
