Attitude is everything

Hi everyone the following was sent to me from Vikki from Scotland, who won a years free life coaching with me. I love it so much that i wanted everyone to see it.

There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head. Well," she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today?"  So she did and she had a wonderful day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head. "H-M-M," she said, "I think I'll part my hair down the middle today?" So she did and she had a grand day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her head. "Well," she said,  "today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail." So she did and she had a fun, fun day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head. "YEA!" she exclaimed, "I don't have to fix my hair today!"

Attitude is everything.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Live simply,
Love generously,
Care deeply,
Speak kindly......

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.  It's about learning to dance in the rain.

12 Stone Lighter!

Here's some truely amazing feedback from Diane Stephenson - what a success story! Thanks Diane for sending this through and becoming an instant inspiration!...

12 stone weight lossDIANE WRITES: In August 2002 I finally started to get to grips with my weight issue.  I’d either been overweight, or perceived myself to be, for all of my life and at that point weighed almost 24 stone.

My first step on the journey was to give up my major vice – chocolate.  By having to think about what I wanted to snack on, as I couldn’t just grab for my automatic panecea to all ills.  This meant I started to lose a little bit of weight and I joined a gym and started going 3 or 4 times a week.

In April 2003 my job was made redundant and I knew I would have more time available for a while, until I found another job, so I started working out with a personal trainer to make sure I was working in a way that would help me achieve my goals.   I also had time on my hands and found a book that had been recommended to me called Slimming with Pete by Pete Cohen.
I found this book amazingly helpful – it was light, entertaining reading but also drove home some powerful points including:

  • Are you really hungry?  For me this was really helpful as historically I was an emotional eater – angry, scared, depressed – chocolate would sort that out!!!?
  • Think about what you eat – don’t do something else at the same time.  Since doing this I really notice that I eat much quicker when I’m watching TV than if I’m sitting at the table and putting my cutlery down.?
  • Avoid habitual eating – do you need to eat popcorn at the cinema because that’s what you always do?

There were many more helpful points but 5 years on these are what have stuck in my mind.  I was always determined not to go on a diet – I knew I needed to eat in a more balanced and healthy way and stop obsessing about food, whether it was good or bad or, in eating it whether I was good or bad.  I needed to learn that food is just that – it’s how we think about it that gives it so much power.  There are very few foods that are “bad”, mostly it’s just about balance.

Pete’s book Life DIY is also really helpful from a goal setting point of view and helping to think about where you want to be.

Five years down the line I’m 12 stone lighter and far fitter than I ever thought I could be.  I’ve run two half-marathons and run regularly, often for relaxation as I find it to be a great stress-buster.  My average week includes running, spinning classes, Body Attack and Body Pump classes, Pilates, Tai Chi, horse-riding as well as working out in the gym.

The whole process has led to a passionate interest in health through food and I am currently studying for a diploma in Nutritional Therapy with the Institute of Optimum Nutrition with a view to helping others.

An apple in my way

Hi there all.

Some members on my weight loss programme publish some of their journal entries; I read this one and wanted to share it with you all:

“I was thinking I should prepare a cake to eat, so I entered in the kitchen. But there was a beautiful apple in my way, already cleaned. As I ate it, my wishing of a delicious cake simply disappeared! That's the way it works. The apple was delicious!” - SIlvia, Brazil

This is a great example of someone breaking a habit and doing something different. I challenge all of you to get into the habit of breaking the habits that hold you back. How about YOU get into the habit of eating more fruit. Check out the blog entries on apples and bananas.

Take care,
Pete

The key isn't just what you eat, it's what you write

It's scientifically proven: The key isn't just what you eat, it's what you write.Good Housekeeping Magazine Logo

So this is why my programme includes a journal for you to use every day.

"Studies show that a journal doesn't just aid weight loss — it turbo-charges it. When researchers from Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research followed more than 2,000 dieters who were encouraged to record meals and snacks, they found that the single best predictor of whether a participant would drop weight was whether the person kept a food diary"

And the result of my weigh in is...

From another highly-inspirational petecohen.tv weight-loss programme member:

"And the result of my weigh in is - - - I've lost 11.5lbs in 4 weeks! Only another 16.5 lbs to go till I reach my previously unattainable goal, now it is so close I can feel it, I just want the time to pass so I am "there", but I have already waited 20 years, I can wait a bit longer. In 8.5lbs time I will be the lightest I have been for 19 years and that is my next mini goal. This is fab, espeically as I had to kick myself up the butt to get myself moving and scream at that lazy duck to shut itself up many times. I already have got in to my tight work trousers, and today you probably heard my whoop of joy as I got in to a pair of cargo pants I bought a couple of years ago and have not been able to get in to previously. I measured myself also and have lost 2" off my bust (dropped 2 bra sizes!), 1.5" each off waist and hips and 1.5" off each thigh. To say I am pleased is an understatement, Pete you are a miracle worker, what you have done for me is just wonderful. I am repeating the programme again as there is so much in it, I hear new things every time I play one of your videos. It was the best "click" I ever made that led me to find your programme. Thank you so much!"

I can't wait to hear more! :)

Karen

Yesterday at the gym at 6.30 am. Resistance first then cardio. Quite enjoying early morning exercise. I feel invigorated for the day. Lots of messages of support from my work friends and patients. Continued support from my loved ones. Followed Amanda's nutrition plan throughout the day and not missing any foods. Ate at friends last night - baked salmon and stir fried veggies - delicious. Suddenly became very tired and found it difficult to keep my eyes open when driving home. Really wanted caffeine but refrained and slept like a baby. I feel pretty good and really motivated.

Confessions of a couch potato...

From a petecohen.tv weight-loss programme member:

"I have realised that I AM a couch potato. When I was younger, I was aways running, jumping, dancing - I was never still and I was a lovley and slim size 10 (this was in my thirties so I know it is achievable again). But the past few years I have developed this habit of sttiing completely still watching TV or working on the PC - I have become a totally immobile, couch potato. What is my exercise of choice? Watching TV with a glass of red wine and snack - cheese / salami / crisps - easy to see how the weight slips on, isn't it? And the half hearted exercise I was doing served no purpose other than to maintain my late night drinking and snacking habit. God, thsis hard to write, feels almost like a confessional........... I am trying to say I am finally off my a*se and using the exercise tool - I did 30 mins on the cross trainer last night. after about 10 miutes the duck had to be firmly shut up - it was whispering to me "you've done enough now, deal or no deal is on TV..So I shouted " SHUT UP!!!!!! And I did it, the full 30 minutes, I DID IT!!!!!And I am going to do it again every other day. It's a real breakthough for me and I am so grateful to Pete for getting me moving again. The rest of it is going great, got in to those tight trousers hanging in my wardrobe. Not weighing myself till end of January as I feel the scales have very negative connotations for me. I am measuring waist etc as some clothes feeling loose now."

This girl gets a very well deserved Pat On the Back from me! Live the dream :)

Queen of negative thinking

From one of my weight-loss program members:

Journal Entry:
Title: "Queen of negative thinking"
Entry: "I have done both day 4 and day 5 today (will do day 5 again tomorrow as it is very good and I want to keep in sequence) as last night all the negative thoughts I could muster were swirling round in my head.... I have not had an alcoholic drink since 31/12/07 and if there had been any in the house last night, I probably would have succumbed. It was all I could think of. I busied myself with other things and had some herbal tea AND I DID NOT EAT but I was talking to myself very negatively and harshly all the time, which didn't help. I did day 4 this morning and noticed day 5 was about dealing with negativity - so I did that as well! I am doing fine apart from that, it just makes me realise how much of this is in my head and I would not have got this far without this programme. After years of yoyo dieting my thoughts are very negative, that this will be just like all the other attempts to lose weight, that I can't keep it up, that I am useless and crap. However, I am now going to tell that voice to "shut the duck up", give myself priase for my achievements and see how that goes. And Pete is right about the MP3 - it does relax me and makes me feel more positive. And writing this is cathartic, like dumping all this stuff out of me to somewhere (or someone!) else."

So, if you haven't clicked on it already, Day 5 is available on the Free Trial - it's about dealing with the negative voices in your head... 'The Duck' as I call it.
